From 1999 through 2002, I spent each winter photographing a famous big wave located in Half Moon Bay, CA known as Mavericks. Having grown up in Half Moon Bay, I was well connected in the local surf scene and jumped at the opportunity to document such an amazing circumstance. I took nearly all of my photographs off a jetski, precariously balancing an expensive camera and lens while maneuvering through giant surf. Images I shot were published in both national and international publications from Surfing Magazine to USA Today. It was an experience I’ll never forget.
